TP Link Extender Setup

WiFi extenders are advanced devices designed to satisfy the demands of users by extending the range of their current wireless network. Unlike WiFi repeaters, these devices incorporate significant improvements in technology. They use a technique called "Backhaul" to extend the signal without consuming any wireless bandwidth. This is achieved by linking the extender module to the router using a wired connection. However, once the TP Link extender setup is complete, users can effortlessly utilize the WiFi network without any need for wiring.

Below are the procedures to take in order to configure a TP Link extender:

It is crucial to gather information about your current router, such as its IP address, WiFi SSID, and encryption type, before starting the TP Link extender setup process. Additionally, you should have access to the router and extender passwords to connect to the network.

  1. To begin the installation process, the user must first log into the router. To do this, open a web browser and enter the router's IP address in the address bar. The IP address is usually 192.168.1.1, but it could be something else. If you don't know the IP address, you can find it by going to the computer network tab and clicking on the wireless network, then selecting "Properties".Your IP address will be listed next to "IPv4".

  2. Once you have accessed the router's GUI, navigate to the wireless settings section and take note of important details such as the router IP address, SSID, encryption method, and network password.

  3. Finally, log in to the router to ensure that you have access to all necessary settings for the TP Link extender setup.

If the router does not respond to the default IP address of 192.168.1.1, an alternative IP address must be used. To identify the router's IP address, follow the steps below:

  1. By pressing a right-click on the Windows taskbar, select "Task Manager".

  2. Make sure to check the "Run as Admin" box when choosing "File" followed by "New Task."

  3. Type "CMD" into the box to open a command line prompt

  4. Enter the command "ipconfig/all" into the prompt and then press "Enter".

  5. Locate the "Default Gateway" and note down the IP address displayed, as this is the router's IP address

However, this is not the final step in the TP Link extender setup process. You will need to follow more steps to configure the TP Link extender.

Step-by-Step Guide for TP Link Extender Set up:

To initiate the TP Link extender setup process, you must connect your extender to a computer using an Ethernet cable.

Follow these steps to set up your TP Link extender:

  1. First, attach your TP Link extender to a power source.

  2. Using an Ethernet cable, join the extender to your pc.

  3. Open a web browser on your computer and navigate the web page of TP-Link. If this address does not work, try entering the LAN IP address. This will take you to the TP-Link webpage.

  4. Select "Quick Setup" and click "Next".

  5. Choose your region and click "Next".

  6. Wait while the TP-Link extender scans for available wireless networks. The time taken will depend on the number of networks detected.

  7. Select the wireless network you wish to extend from the list and click "Next".

  8. Enter the wireless password when prompted.

  9. If you want to create a single, larger wireless network, select "Copy from the main router".

  10. Click "Next".

  11. Verify the network settings displayed in the final window and click "Finish" if everything is correct.

Set up the TP Link extender WPS button:

In case your router features a WPS button, it can also be utilized to set up everything. Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) ensures the secure and automatic configuration of networks. Typically located on the back of the router and labeled as WPS, the physical button can be used for this purpose.

Once the TP-Link extender is set up, it will reboot and ideally grant internet access. It's recommended to test the connection first using an Ethernet cable, then switch to wireless. Depending on the TP-Link extender model, there may be an indicator light on the front that confirms the network connection. Keep an eye on this light to ensure that the connection is stable.

Final Words

After completing the initial setup steps for your TP Link extender, you should be able to enjoy a speedy internet connection from anywhere in your home. However, if the connection is unstable, try moving the extender to different locations until you find the optimal position that provides the best performance.
